The History of Newsome Roofing

Newsome Roofing Company, Inc. was established in Salisbury, NC in 1932. Burt Newsome founded the company which was started with the help of a few friends. Burt grew up in a very big, hardworking family that made an honest living through farming. He had seven brothers and four sisters.

In 1938 Burt decided to expand his flourishing business to the Capital City of Raleigh, NC. After acquiring a warehouse and employing a few experienced roofers, Burt opened for business in the Triangle.  With business flourishing, Burt brought one of his brothers, Byron, to Raleigh to help. Shortly after Byron’s arrival, Burt returned to his home in Salisbury, leaving Byron to manage the Raleigh office. 

Byron was an excellent businessman and successfully grew the business throughout North Carolina. At one time, Newsome Roofing Company Inc. had locations in Salisbury, Raleigh, New Bern, Wilmington, and Winston Salem. The expansion increasingly became more difficult to manage while delivering the quality of service Byron and Burt demanded. Eventually the other locations were absorbed back into the Raleigh office.

Until his death in 2004, Byron (“B.B.” or “Buck” to most people) shared management of the company with his grandson Edward Davis. 

Edward's roots were in Wilson, NC and he spent his summers during High School and College working for the company. Edward graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in Business Management. He spent several years working in the corporate arena before joining his grandfather to take over the day-to-day operations in 2001.

It was crucial to Byron, that the business continue into another century while maintaining it's family ties and values.  Together, Byron and Edward bridged generation gaps to make Newsome Roofing Company, Inc. into the modern and user friendly business it is today. Newsome Roofing Company, Inc. has continued to thrive while maintaining the business principles that Burt instilled when he started the company so many years ago.
